🎨 MADE IN VANCOUVER

Scott, the Artist at the Waterfront

Art by Scott (@theycallmescott81)

If you've walked the Waterfront on a dry afternoon, you may have seen Scott drawing by the splash pad. He works in alcohol-based markers with Sakura and parallel pens, and he uses limits to his advantage: a time limit, a short supply list, a small palette. "Most of the time I choose a reference photo and just see where it takes me," he says. "I like to build stories around my pictures while I draw."

Scott is autistic, and when traditional jobs didn't work for him, he decided to put himself out there and show what he can do. Part of the point is encouraging other artists, especially kids, to do the same. His favorite conversations are with people who say they can't even draw a stick figure. "If you can draw a circle and a square, then, given enough time and the right teacher, you can draw anything."

Find him: When there's less than a 30% chance of rain, at the roundabout by the south entrance of the Vancouver Farmers Market or by the Waterfront splash pad, mid-afternoon until dark. Otherwise, he's often working at Carino Coffee House or Full Heart Irish Pub.

See Scott's work on Instagram (message him there to buy a piece)
